Lightning Bolt

pretty self explanatory folks.

Lightning Bolt

Postby spanish » Wed Oct 23, 2013 12:10 am

Ok, I don't hate it as much anymore... A couple of the songs are growing on me. I'm glad Records, Sleeping and Yellow Sun are together. Those songs I kinda like. Still hate Sirens. Lightning Bolt has it's moments.

But the piano intro/outro for Future Days makes me want to vomit.

What about Infallible and Swallowed Whole?
I've grown to love those two songs.

They played Infallible both nights in Philly. It sounded great.
Didn't get to hear Swallowed Whole.

Looks like they aren't playing Swallow Hole or Go Away which sucks, 'cause they are the only songs I like.

They've played Swallowed Whole 3 times.
On 10/12, 10/15, 10/18.

They have yet to play Getaway.

I noted the same thing in another thread somewhere. It's a good tune, though.

Yes it is.

When I was first listening to the album (before looking at the lyrics)
I thought he was saying there's an animal on the rise. For the life of
me I couldn't figure out what animal he was talking about.

Ah motherfucker… I like the record now. I do.

Much better than the last two, that's for sure.

Yay.

It grows on ya; I like when a record does that and just about every Pearl Jam
record has done that to me. I haven't stopped listening to it yet.

Yes. Me too.

I don't know how this happened but it happened. I don't remember ever hating a record this much only to enjoy it so much just a couple of weeks later.
I even find myself singing along to Sirens. But fuck that. That song sucks.

However, that live performance of lightning bolt on Fallon was pretty mediocre.

It's not bad, but it feels shoe horned in. Sleeping By Myself would have been perfect as a B-Side.

The only songs I don't love are Manners, Sirens and Future Days. Everything else is pretty great. Best record they've done since Binaural for sure.

Sleeping By Myself could be the most Beatle-esque song Ed has ever written.
So in some ways, this could be the best song Pearl Jam's ever done.
You may be right, it does not belong on this record.

Another observation: if you listen to the vocal harmonies on the song, you'll find that some of them are kinda low on the mix. There's also room in the song for even more harmony so why doesn't Pearl Jam take advantage of that? Because none of the other guys can sing. That sucks.

Real question - you are aware Sleeping is a song off the Ukelele album?
